Alitalia: Air One promises a bid to counter Air France-KLM (source : La Tribune)
Air One would seek to return into the race of Alitalia's privatisation. The company promised to unveil a bid to counter Air France-KLM. The fall of the Prodi's government could indeed revive the process.
Air One did not disarm to take control of Alitalia. So far, the group however mostly made declaration without presenting any formal nor serious offer, but this could change. The private company could indeed make an offer on Alitalia, which is currently in exclusive negotiations with Air France-KLM.
Air One announced that it will soon unveil a deal on Alitalia with the support of an Italian investors consortium . This is not the first time that Air One made such statements. "We are ready to submit a binding offer with a group of Italian entrepreneurs not only from the north but from all over Italy," the company said in the statement issued Sunday evening. This was the Air One reply to the Minister for the Economy Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa, who has criticized the Italian company and its partner bank Intesa Sanpaolo not having submitted offers in July, it she was alone in the running, or not not having outbid on the proposal of Air France-KLM in December.
Air One recently went to court in order to be able to submit a firm offer competes with that of Air France-KLM. This legal action is to be considered Tuesday by a court in the region of Rome.
The recent resignation of Prodi government could indeed complicate games for Air France-KLM, as it was recognized Monday by Dominique Bussereau, French Secretary of State for Transport. Part of the Italian political class, especially right in the Northern region, hopes to avoid the sale of Alitalia to Air France-KLM, as it will strongly reduce the role of the Milan-Malpensa airport.
