I've bought the phone cards at those tobacco stores also - big black and white "T" sign. The ones I've received need activated by tearing a corner off them. What I particularly liked about them was that when I'd made my phone call I could run off any left over money while using their computers in several of the cybercafes.

Actually, I rarely make phone calls when overseas because I find it so much easier to use a computer and communicate via email. If you don't have accounts and machines, you can open up free accounts on sites like Yahoo and US libraries usually have free machines.
