And what happens when the one flight per day is delayed and/or cancelled? You end up adding an extra schlepp to LHR and you have a similar situation to Concorde in the final years when maintenence problems caused the total travel time to be longer than a sub-sonic service.
Ideas that immigration will be handled at Shannon are speculation at best, until it is confirmed at least. But even if immigration is handled in Ireland, you still end up waiting for bags in New York and having to pass through customs. I have not been through in a long time with BA, but my experience at most US airports is that you always end up waiting either for immigration or customs or bags or a combination of the three.
Seems like much ado about nothing IMHO (until I hear otherwise, from official sources, of course).
