Try eating at Chloe's in Noe Valley -- extremely popular with locals and away from touristy areas. It's easily accesible -- take the J-Church streetcar to Church & Clipper, then walk a short block south to Church and 26th. You might have to wait a bit to get seated but it's worth it.
