Anyway, I have been downgraded on a 77W, CDG/YUL in an embarassing experience as I boarded. They did the switcheroo of the boarding pass and told me a higher fare passenger requested an upgrade. They gave me a worse seat than the 18K I picked. I sent an e-mail to AC, and within a few days, they replied with an apology that I did not get my original seat when I was d/g'd, and credited me with enough AP points to satisfy me.

What I've realized is not to get my hopes up with an SSWU - with or without a confirmed U/G.

So, my advice, is that it never hurts to send an e-mail to Customer Care and explain the situation.
That should not be allowed, a confirmed upgrade is just that. If there has been an equipment change, fine that is a different story. But if a customer has confirmed an upgrade in advance I think AC has to honor that, not take it away in favor of another pax, it's their problem they didn't confirm their upgrade in advance. BTW, I am assuming that you confirmed in advance, as you already had the BP in hand.
