In December I saw John McEnroe in the CCR with a bespoke tennis racket case which seemed to be the size of around six normal racket cases stitched together and much larger than the hand-luggage limit. So you definitely can take a large racket case through Heathrow....but, perhaps, only if you win Wimbledon first.
