FWIW, most crews are happy to hear from passengers about any inop equipment you come across on a plane. Though small items (non-working reading lamp, inop video, etc) may simply be logged for later service, it does mean that all the 'niggles' get attended to when the plane goes in for routine service. Otherwise, the faults may not be noticed until a full inspection of the cabin, which I imagine doesn't take place that frequently.
