Only you can decided if you want to stay with starwood, however, I wouldn't say the rules suck, because you did not know/read the T & C's. Sounds harsh, but it is what it is.
I've read the rule. I comply with the rule -- and as such avoid SPG when booking for business travel on epediacorporate - and I declare this rule most assuradely does suck.
Just because it's published does not cleanse it of its sucky nature. It does not mean that people aren't routinely confused (how many times does this come up) and it doesn't mean that people don't divide loyalty between brands as a consequence.
It's lose-lose. Less nights for us, less rooms for SPG. Sounds like a suck-rule to me.
