I've found the same thing - compared to other Indian Call centers with other travel companies, the UA .bomb call center seems to be ok. However, one thing I've found in all my experiences calling India is that the agents accent and language training does not extend to country and city names or basic geography - so the story from the OP doesn't surprise me.
Although I understand the difficulty in pronouncing some city names, I would have thought that Geography would have been fairly strong in the Indian education system given that it usually trends to rote learning and geography is great for that.
