I haven't been to San Diego since I was a kid so I can't compare but I can tell you that you can find plenty here in Vegas to keep you occupied. If you end up here on a Tuesday night there is a Sin City Q social that meets somewhere different every week and plenty of shows, my favorite are the cirque ones.
If the pound is so good, I would suggest The Hotel at Mandalay Bay or Bellagio, both very nice places to stay, although not gay.
I've never been to the Blue Moon but have heard decent reviews.
