I would rather earn kilometers and turn them in as miles. That said I can see what the OP is talking about. It is kinda like the metric system though it would make somethings better other things are no different. For instance, the only difference between the metric and the imperial system is that it is based on 10s but otherwise the underlying system for both is rather ad hoc. Even if they switched to the metric I would still be ordering a pint of beer.
