Yup, I have, at FCO. We had a 5+ hour layover, and decided to get out of the airport, visit Ostia Antica via a 5 Euro/day SmartForTwo.

As long as there are only 2 of you, I think you and your 2x 22" rollerboards should fit just fine (though a bit snug). We had the 1st generation Smart, and turning radius on that thing was shockingly horrible - I expected that small thing to turn on a dime, but if felt as if I was turning a semi truck!

Talking to the smart people at the Detroit Auto Show a few weeks ago, apparently they fixed that (the redesigned car didn't look that different though). All in all, it was a fun rental, though I would be a bit concerned driving that thing on the highways for a long period of time.
