It's not kind of unethical. It is completely unethical. However, travel agents themselves are no panacea. Often they will put you on connecting flights to save $20. If that takes a few hours more of your time does that save the company money? I doubt it. There needs to be some give and take. A one size fits all rule is generally a bad idea for all concerned.
