I think we're missing the point here folks. The children were fine. Yes, it's frightening under the circumstances. In a foreign country, mother becomes ill, taken to a strange place by strangers, etc. Who is the injured party? They were taken care of and were treated like "mini-celebrities."
Children take the lead of their parents. Apparently they had no idea of how bad a situation they were in until they were told they were. The girls had a good time. The adults are having a bad time.
Quotes:
"It was scary at first but everyone turned out to be friendly.
"It was a good experience - just not really what we had gone on holiday for."
"The girls had an interesting insight into the life of a 'removed' child in New York City.
"They also had some great fun tales of all the other girls that had met in the orphanage and said they were treated like mini celebrities from England.
"It was quite a relief to know that they hadn't been scarred for life."
