What I meant was that I would have tried to get a manager involved at the airport. Rules are rules, but at 2 minutes after cutoff there is some room to maneuver. The agent probably feared discipline for checking a late bag... with the proper blessing, all things become possible.
Question for the OP: did this problem occur during the holidays? If so, the 19-minute wait at least becomes a little more understandable...
it was january 9th.. so i'd say it was after the holidays.. where i screwed up was i went to the online checkin baggage drop off, which is normally empty but that day was packed.. had i gone to the regular baggage dropoff i would have easily made it.. the thing that annoys me is the flight was overbooked (agent told me) and thats why they didnt let me on/took me off...
