It would appear that the crew did a good job of handling the emergency.

It is unclear the cause of the emergency.

However, I am hesitant to proclaim anyone a hero. To me, heroics are more reserved for crews such as United 232. Over fifty crews were put in DC-10 sims following that crash, and despite having knowledge of how to handle it, not a single crew successfully replicated the job the crew on the airplane did.
