I had exactly that idea, but I called back a couple of times and the 1K desk said not-upgradable. They did confirm that Internet only fares have an "I", but that there are other so-called "private" fares that would not include the "I" and still not be upgradable, because these private fares are not published fares.

I still dont make any sense out of this all.....
