Planning to fly PVG to PEK on probably either Dragon Air or Air China. Can I do a carry on plus a large purse????
I flew on a number of Chinese airlines, including Air China, two months ago. I carried on a rolling computer case and a photo-backpack with no problem whatsoever.

With respect to security, which another OP commented on, they are both professional and helpful. For some reason, you can't bring alcoholic beverages through security, though you can buy all you want air-side and carry them on the plane. I got stopped at Jiliang with two small bottles of palm wine. The security officer explained that I couldn't bring them through, but if I wanted to drink them on the spot, I could. I drank one, but that stuff was strong, more of a palm liquor, and having the second was out of the question. I offered the security officer the second small bottle. He laughed, but indicated that he couldn't have it. I left it with him and left the security are for my flight.

I hope he was able to take it home!
