If she was saying you look like Mr. Bean, it might have been case of cultural misunderstanding. Sounds like she liked his brand of comedy and was (poorly in your eyes) complimenting you on the look alike, and her grimace was her attempt to replicate one of his famous faces a la Jim Carrey. She might have thought she was comparing you kind of favorably to a popular icon in his funny movies. You were just as "famous and deserving" of this kind of adoration as he, in her small world.

Again hard to say but don't think she would be intentionally trying to debase a customer in an upscale restaurant. A job therein for most waitresses would not be something she would risk lightly in making fun of farang customers, IMHO.

Years ago when the late M.R. Kukrit Pramoj had just lost power to his brother M.R. Seni, Kukrit told a close friend of mine that he looked like a very well known English movie star. My friend said that others had told him he looked like Michael Caine, but Kukrit said in his perfect Oxford accent, "No, I was thinking you look like Marty Feldman!"

Now that's a slap in the face!
