I never understood CLD and why it saw service. When I lived in San Diego (Del Mar to be exact) I suppose i was closer to CLD, but it was so easy to get to SAN which had bigger planes, more choices and better schedules. I don't know anyone who ever flew from CLD though I always checked the prices because I thought it might be fun. Prices were always just too high.
Simple. Free parking. No lines (well, maybe 3 people ahead of you), and if you live in North County, no traffic in the mornings.
When I lived in PB, SAN was my airport. CLD is just too convenient for North County. UAX connecting to LAX makes travel also very easy.
