So I guess I'm good to go, regardless of what the website says. Would it be prudent to contact the hotel directly to confirm they have my reservation in their system correctly as well? I'd plan on doing it via email as well to ensure a paper trail.

Appreciate the advice Mr. Vker on the email route. Paperwork in hand is definitely more reassuring than a "It's all OK" over the phone!
I am glad it worked out. Just make sure the cert is not in your Unused Cert area and the reservation now says changes have to be made by phone.

I will say for this for 1000th time. This is no way for Marriott to treat their best customers. FIX THE PROBLEM.

Most award stays are leisure trips and people dont want potential difficulty hanging over their heads on vacation!
