The best was the very cute one at Publix supermarket who just about smashed his cart into mine to get my attention - all I could offer was a blank stare, an apology and walked away, when I should have gotten the hint instead. Oh well, live and learn.

Kukukajoo, I've had a similar experience when I used to go out with my best friend who was a competitive bodybuilder at that time, and blonde/blue to boot. I can't count the number of times the waitress/waiter fawned over him and then walked away without even taking my order like I was invisible! The first few times I got nasty about it, but after awhile I gave up. The upside was watching the rage build in the Fort Lauderdale Queen Mafia set when they'd see him pick up the tab - the glares got to me, but after he explained they were just being jealous and .....y, I let it go.
My suggestion, particularly when traveling, is just to be yourself, be friendly, make eye contact and be polite. Folks, whether gay or straight, in the travel industry deal with total a...holes all day, also gay and straight. Those gay TAs and FAs will appreciate someone who is one of us but still well mannered and kind. Consequently, these same TAs and FAs will often show their appreciation in numerous ways.

As far as when out with a "hot" friend, while yes other gay men may gravitate more towards him, there is no reason to pretend that you don't exist. And anyone who does not have common manners is not one to be worried about anyway.
