I believe every room at SFO (and probably most other airports)is numbered, even the janitorial closets and mechanical equipment rooms. "8888" is how the discreet, signless room housing the F lounge is numbered by UA at SFO, and only SFO. The 8888 room (lounge) is a little like a mini RCC that caters to full-fare F passengers on the "premium" SFO-JFK route.
