Have you thought about switching your Platinum card to the International Dollar Card ($550/yr) like Susan suggested, and downgrading your UK Pounds card to Green? This would mean you still have all the insurances etc from the Platinum card, can use it in the states when you like, and still have a UK Pounds card for when you are back home. I have it set up this way and it's a breeze.
