It was not clear from your message whether or not you are a US citizen and therefore have a social security number and US credit history. I would imagine both of those things would be relatively important in securing a US credit card, not to mention an AmEx Platinum. All that being said, if you have good history on your UK AmEx Platinum card, you may be able to take advantage of the AmEx Global Transfer Program. This was set up to accomodate expats who move between countries; it is what I used to set up my UK AmEx account when I moved here from the US. They examine the credit history of your existing AmEx account and use that as a proxy to issue a card in your "new" country.
When I moved to the US, I called Amex and they opened a US account for me without a SSN or US credit history on the strength of my UK Amex. All they needed were a US bank account, ID (my passport copy) and proof of address.
I still keep the US card (to run out the USD sitting in my US bank account) but they have a Europe billing address now for both UK and US cards. No problem keeping both.
