Maybe you're right. I just had an epiphany: miles systems work for airlines, because the time you spend sitting BIS on a jet is time spent suffering. So you should be compensated for the length of time you sit on a jet.
But time spent traveling by train is enjoyable, so earning more points/miles because you spent more time on the train isn't a necessary reward to entice you to spend yet more time on another train.
Or something like that...
