AGR isn't really an equal program to air programs because it really incentivizes the NE corridor (daily or very frequent travel) and devalues long-haul trips (Midwest and Western regions) with its points system versus mileage system.
While I won't deny that Amtrak definately orientates things to the business commuter on the NEC, I for one am glad that we are on a point system based upon dollars and not miles.
Why should someone in a $145 coach seat going from Chicago to Seattle get as many points as someone who just laid out $1,000+ to get a bedroom from Chicago to Seattle?
