ISTR there were special rules for US-bound flights for a short time, but that everything got sorted some time in early 2007 and that the rules are now fairly uniform in Europe and North America - i.e., you can take liquids on board as long as they were bought past Security.

What one needs to be aware of are airports where Security comes AFTER the shops, and where one therefore needs to know the "drill" before going through Security. I know of three - AMS (where you need to buy your drinking water at the Delicatessen shop and get it sealed), PRG (where you need to have local currency to use the vending machines past Security), and ACI where you ask the kind lady at the cafe to take your water bottle to the airside holding pen for you.
