Upgrades after cancellation of flight
I would like your advice on how to handle this. I had booked H fare ($250 over lowest fare) to HKG two months ago for a flight today from EWR via ORD and had confirmed upgrades to business class on both segments. (25K miles each way). The flight EWR-ORD is canceled today because of weather.
They will rebook me for tomorrow but will not guarantee upgrades (will be waitlisted) even though business class seats are available because upgrade seats are not available!
I switched from Continental (Platinum) to UA (Premier Executive). If this is the best UA can do I will have to switch back. Could have gone on a direct flight to HKG in business class instead.
Is this really the UA policy? I can understand that weather happens and flights gets canceled. I could even understand if the business class seats were already all booked. But somehow treating upgrades as a favor they are doing to me is distasteful and not worth being loyal about.
What do you folks think?
