You will pick up you luggage before you go through customs but after immigration. You will also get your dog there. Don't worry he won't be put on the carousel. You will probably pick up the transport box with the dog a the bulk item baggage claim.

Maybe pay a porter? Or just traveling with one bag and then carry your bag in one hand while holding the leash in the other hand.

No not really. As soon you got your dog back you are on your own but AA probably can tell you were to get a porter for your bags.

Just one last thing. Make sure that you fully understand the terms of transportation of your dog!! Consulat a vet to find out if there are any known issues with your kind of breed according to air transport. Make sure you have all the necessary paper work so your dog will be let into the country by customs. Make sure your dog doesn't need to go into quarantine.
