There are two things I always do that aren't covered in the pre-flight briefing.

Fistly,count the number of rows to the nearest exit just in case you need that information, and secondly, check under your set to see if you really do have a life vest there. In 1000+ sectors, I've only come across a lack of vest once, but I still keep checking. You never know if and when you might need one.
