If one already has a BB I recommend buying the tethering plan from the provider. It is a bit more expensive, but it is 100% within the T&C of your service contract (PDANet/MobiShark are in a grey area) and you get real support from the carrier, just in case. If you've got one of the other devices the case isn't quite as clear, as not all of them are supported for tethering officially.
