Just to bring closure to this thread, I was able to reach the call center in Germany, but they said they couldn't refund or change my discount ticket. I bit the bullet and bought a new ticket.
I'm guessing, then, that you had a "DauerSpezial" ticket.
Some of the discount tickets ("Sparpreis") allow exchange or refund up to one day before your trip for a 15€ fee.
