Hate to give a suggestion for the 'enemy' but has your friend considered moving more stays over to Hilton? I'm in the deep south as well, and as mentioned, the Starwoods properties can be few and far between in some places. I love Starwoods properties, and esp. Starpoints, but when it comes to staying in my general area (central AL), it so much easier to find Hilton properties...
