If the pictures are for commercial use then that is true. For private use there is no reason why you can't take pictures unless it's in a specifically prohibited area like passport control or of security measures.
I'm not sure about the UK, but be warned, in many countries, airports are specifically prohibited areas, where taking pictures can lead to you being arrested.
