The reality is that workers can hold large companies over a barrel. The pilots' strike was a horrible fiasco for the entire industry. Now the mechanics want their piece, which is understandable but not good for the financial health of the industry or for the flying public.

If anything, unions have too many "rights" and that is the reason for the convoluted politicized process -- as a counter balance.
