Got to work and saw this, pretty amazing story and bloody miraculous it didn't end in tragedy. Looking at Google Maps you can see how quickly the aircraft came to a halt, must have been a pretty fierce stop on that one if you compare it to the usual distance to stop a 777 on tarmac. If you look on the BBC helicopter footage you can see where it initially touches down. That'd have been coming across the perimeter road mighty low and with all the other 'road furniture', trees and buildings I'm surprised it ended so successfully.
It's the second time Heathrow (and BA) has narrowly missed disaster in the last twenty years, that 747 almost came down atop of the Heathrow Penta. That was apparently 15ft from the roof
Sounds like
spotwelder thinks the a/c is written off, not surprising when you see that mess around the emerg exit by the wing...
Interestingly I was checking my email when I got back from work and it appears as though I'd flown this particular aircraft. I'd uploaded a video to YouTube with the reg in the tags and loads of people had added comments today (hence the emails).
