On my last flight from FRA to the US I (HON) was seated in an aisle seat but with direct neighbor. 3 other 2-seat blocks were empty but got assigned to other passengers by the crew. I was not even asked if I want to sit in an empty row nor was obviously the seat beside me blocked.
