I've had similarly good experiences with the QF Clubs. I recall being pleasantly surprised when checking in at PER for a PER-CBR flight that my AA PLT status allowed me use of the lounges (even on a domestic flight). Beer, Wine, free wifi, and a decent buffet with actual food. I noticed that when there was a high volume of pax entering (e.g. SYD in the am) just flashing my BP and PLT card was enough to get in (no swiping necessary).
I transited through HNL last week from NRT on my way to SAN. I arrived at the QF Club and entered on my OW status. Nice spread; good choice of liquor (even though it's in the am), pastry, cheese, fresh fruit, etc. Rather depressing at 11am when the club turns into an AC - all gets taken away and replaced with a bowl of pretzels and a pot of coffee.
IMO the QF domestic lounges are better than any AC I've been to with the exception of NRT.
