One of the dumb things US does (according to some it's one of many...) is that they don't offer a soft landing for elites. If you don't fly you lose status.

AA gives a soft landing - a Plat who doesn't fly for a year doesn't get kicked out - they go down to Gold. Are they the only one with a soft landing?
