The speculation regarding the total avionics and power failure suddenly happening is confusing.
This is almost impossible on a modern airliner due to emergency battery back up for critical systems and the RAT that can be deployed for electrical and hydraulic power. On a FBW airliner this is so critical to be an infetisimally(sp) small possibility during take-off and landing phases. Changeover to back-up systems is instant and automatic.
Oh well, we'll just have to wait for the report I guess....
