It is very clear from news reports and first hand accounts of passengers on board that the crew were superb in evacuating this aircraft so quickly and efficiently. I'm sure there were Chinese passengers who did not speak English and this could have slowed things down, but clearly the cabin crew were first class and showed just how well trained they are for just this kind of emergency - training which, thankfully, they rarely have to use.
Although I appreciate a full investigation is taking place, early indications are a loss of power and avionics (whether for just a few seconds or a longer period) took place and under these circumstances I believe the flight deck crew also behaved in a superb manner. Certainly the news reports currently have many experts praising their behaviour and, at this point, I have no reason to disagree with them.
Whatever the reasons ultimately turn out to be we should all be thankful that the aircraft was able to reach the airfield. Had it fallen short of there we would be dealing with a far more tragic incident.
I have nothing felt anything but safe when flying with BA and seeing how well my colleagues acted today, I feel very proud of them.
