The Decline of Domestic J
Now, when I'm flying in domestic J, I certainly don't want to be fawned over, and I don't wish to be addressed by name.
However, I do expect a decent "premium fare" experience, whether I've paid the fare or upgraded.
The deterioration in domestic J in recent years has been marked, and it's getting worse.
Last night (AC 143, YOW-YEG) it fell as low as it's ever been.
One pre-meal beverage and then the glasses were collected without any scent of "Would you care for another?" One glass of wine with dinner, and - again - no attempt to enquire whether anyone would like a "top-up". We shouldn't have to experience the discomfort of asking for these things, should we?
It was a 319, so the J attendants were not run off their feet. They were polite but that's about it, and they never approached the solicitousness that characterized J in years past.
The salad was actually frozen in the middle and slimy on top.
The chicken entree was okay at best, and it wouldn't have made it into the Y cabin a few years ago.
Butter was provided but no bread rolls were offered.
My polite request for a second "GM on the rocks" and coffee was met with a subtly-raised eyebrow that would have done a Parisian waiter proud.
I don't like making a fuss, and I'm sorry to start another "things are going downhill" thread, but it really was pretty darned poor last night.
