And its not "illegal", but a violation of contract. There were some McDonalds here that signs posted that said $5 minimum for CC use. I turned them in. The signs are down. I understand if a small merchant does it ( even though it is a violation of their contract with the credit card companies) but I am sure not letting MCDonalds get away with it
I stand corrected - I had thought they could require minimums - I wonder if they can in other countries?

It may be against the rules, but minimums for credit cards aren't such a bad thing - my father was a small businessman and the fees for cards were tough to swallow. On small transactions that could be the whole margin after factoring labor, etc. I wonder if the Mickey D's you turned in were franchisee owned rather than corporate?
