It really isn't a big deal. You need to have a signature on file to rent, which is part of the reason for the paperwork. It took me all of 5 minutes to get all the paperwork done and get the CDP verified on my account. Ever since, I have never had to wait more than a few minutes to rent a car. It's always, look at the board, see my stall # and head to the car. I use to rent from Enterprise about four-five years ago (before I found National and then Hertz) and found that rentals from Enterprise take a lot longer. They really do give that car a thorough inspection before you rent and then give it another look when you return. I hated that.
I think you'll find the benefits of renting from Hertz well worth the 5 extra minutes of your life for the first rental.
