It is possible for extra seats to open up on QF but extremely unlikely for flights from Australia to the USA in December which is peak time.It is the Australian summer holidays.On the QF site there are no F awards in November and first 3 weeks in December.The closest business award available was 11/26.
You could try CX via HKG or JAL via NRT.The total elapsed time is only a couple of hours longer than the direct route and you can refresh in the F lounges midway.
