Couldn't agree more.
Flew DL: EZE-ATL-DTW on 1/13 -1/14. This was a bump from the previous day, arriving ATL at 5:35AM, and DL put us on the 10:10 to DTW even though seats were available on the 8:35. We chose to check our small suitcases rather than carry them as would have been easily possible. The plan was to collect them at customs in ATL and then carry them to the NW flight at 7:10 AM where there were both seats and upgrades available, and ask for the BUMP program. Bad mistake.
In ATL after customs we were required to place the bags ion a belt that lead to the arrival area in order to reenter the secure area and go to the NW gate. But the agent refused to allow us to place our bags on that belt because they were checked thru to DTW. Said we had to get DL desk to remove the baggage stickers. And DL refused point-blank, saying that DL no longer allowed standby, or confirmed same-day changes, and that they would fine me $200/bag if I removed stickers myself. Directives from the top the agent told me.
So we sat in the airport 3 1/2 hours, and when we arrived in DTW found that our bags had arrived on the earlier (8:30) flight. Lots of wasted time for no purpose.
Since DL is the larger company it would probably be the survivor, and the new policies of Richard Anderson would presumably prevail. Sayonara customer service
