I've stayed in a ton of Hamptons...I'd say (IN A GOOD WAY) they're comparable to flying on Southwest. There's no executive suite or anything like that, but many of them do have suites to be upgraded into, and most rooms have an inroom fridge and microwave, a large (for the size of room) bathroom, stocked with lotion, shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash, etc. The staff is usually very friendly, good with directions and advice, with cookies out in the afternoon, and there's always coffee and hot water for tea and hot chocolate. I personally love the hamptons, because of the price and the breakfast, especially when you have more than 2 people (Hilton and HGI will only give 2 breakfast chits). The lobbies are also usually pretty nice, with comfy chairs, couchs, TVs, etc, and wireless in the lobby and in room for free.
As for the ES, that's another great chain in my book. I've stayed at 1 that wasn't quite up to par; the rest have been great. Free made to order breakfast in the morning (pancakes, omlettes, meats) etc, with free popcorn or chips and drinks in the afternoon. All of the rooms are suites, of course, and are usually very spacious, but from my experience, they don't appear as new or refreshed as the Hamptons, but still a great deal, in my book.
