Anyhow, sorry I'll miss getting to meet you guys.
On a related note, I got a room through Priceline that is officially non-refundable AND non-transferable. (It's at the Renaissance Stanford Court.) Does anyone have any experience with getting around the transferable part? Can I call the hotel and say my traveling companion is arriving earlier than me and give them authorization to have someone else check in using my name? (I'll do a search of other forums now to see if there's any relevant posts on this topic elsewhere.)

No one can check in using your name, but you can call the hotel and tell them your traveling companion, "John Doe," will be arriving before you. They will put John Doe's name on the record and he can check in. I have done it before. It will work just as if you made the hotel reservation with the hotel directly. Sorry we won't be seeing you.
