Thanks for the replies. The Hilton Garden Inn we are staying at (in Carlsbad, CA) has some ocean view rooms that are sold at a higher rate than their partial and no ocean view rooms. I would hope for an upgrade to a full ocean view from the partial we have booked, but will expect to get a couple of bottles of water .

Good to know that one can cancel an online check in if needed.
